Which PlayStation Mount Do You Need?

July 19, 2021 - Who doesn't love PlayStation? The brand is iconic with five iterations, two handhelds and over 25 years in the business! We've made wall mounts for PlayStation since the PS3, and the PS5 is one of our most popular mounts. Ready to create your ultimate PS5 gaming setup? This guide will help make sure you find the right PlayStation console mount before you purchase!

PlayStation 5

Sony's latest console and one of the hottest items on the market right now is pretty distinct. We've seen plenty of fans mock the design of the PlayStation 5, but we're not here to discuss that. Instead, let's look at what defines the PS5 and what mount you need for the console.

There are a few defining characteristics of the PS5. The first is its size -- it's massive! It stands tall at just over 15 inches with two side panels that flare out. The two-tone color scheme immediately pops out, as well. The PS5 is shown primarily vertically, but it can lay horizontally with some assistance from the base stand included with the console.

The console comes in two flavors. The standard PlayStation 5 includes the disc drive that causes a bump near the bottom of the console (and adding a little extra weight). The PS5 Digital Edition lacks a disc drive, which makes it a bit lighter and thinner.

Luckily, the HIDEit PS5 Wall Mount is designed to work with BOTH consoles, so there's no need to choose! However, if you are mounting the Digital Edition, we do recommend placing the PS5 base stand behind the console when mounting for additional support. This mount is designed to hold the console vertically against the wall. We don't recommend horizontal mounting with this mount although you can use the HIDEit Uni-LXW Universal Mount to horizontally under desk mount the console.

PlayStation 4

Sony released three different models of the PS4 since the original launched in 2013. Let's start with the original model.

The original PlayStation 4 model started the slanted rectangular shape of the console. Looking on the front, you'll see what looks like two “stacks” that make up the shape. The original run of PS4 consoles also had a two-tone top of the shell, one part being glossy (signaling a removable top) and the other being flat, separated by a glowing status light. A refresh removed the glossy top.

While this model has been discontinued you can find refurbished models for cheap.

In 2016, they launched two redesigned models of the PlayStation 4. The first was the PlayStation 4 Slim, a smaller and lighter version of the popular console. This model is still on sale (as of 2021) and retains the same two stack, slanted rectangular shape but makes a few additional changes to the shape, including rounding the edges, giving it a softer silhouette. Sony also placed the famous PS logo in the center of the top of the shell.

Sony will also commonly refer to their PlayStation models by their model number. For the PS4 Slim, you'll look for the model number CUH-2000.

Next, is the PlayStation 4 Pro (model number CUH-7000), also released in 2016. The model is no longer produced (you'll need to own one or resort to refurbished models), but there are few distinguishing design features for this model. Instead of two stacks, you'll see three. Think of the McDonald's Big Mac. The status light indicator also moved from the top of the console to the front and runs horizontally along the face. Similar to the PS4 Slim, you'll find the PS logo in the center of the top of the shell.

PlayStation 3

Released in 2006, the PS3 didn't get off to the greatest of starts. From a small library of consoles to a high price point and massive size, many thought Sony had lost it after the success of the PS2 and PS1. But they bounced back during the generation, and we have a mount for each of the three models they released.

The original PS3 is the largest and most distinguishable of the three models. Lovingly called the ‘PS3 Fat' by fans, the original model is glossy black, rounded in the middle and has ‘PlayStation 3' tattooed across the top of the shell in the same font used in the Toby McGuire Spider-Man movies. You can lift the front of the console to reveal additional ports.

For the original PS3, you'll need the Uni-MXW Adjustable Wall Mount.

Sony released the PlayStation 3 Slim in 2009 to great fanfare and praise. Significantly reducing the size and weight of the console, the Slim brought with it the start of high-quality games and a lower price point.

Retaining the same convex shape of the original, the Slim went away from the gloss black and went flat black. Also gone is the front flap revealing additional ports. The touch capacitive Power and Eject buttons become physical, and gone was the Spider-Man PlayStation 3 logo, replaced with a simpler PS3 on the right side of the top.

Sony didn't stop there, though. Released in 2012, the PS3 Super Slim (yes, Super Slim) shaved a bit more off the top. The most distinctive feature is the slide top disc drive and grated top covering.

Both the PS3 and PS3 Super Slim need the Uni-M Adjustable Wall Mount.
